Before Rome converted, early pagan critics like Celsus and Porphyry tried to attack Christianity head-on. In their writings — The True Doctrine and Against the Christians — they mocked the virgin birth, accused Jesus of being a sorcerer, and criticized the Bible. But what’s surprising is what they didn’t deny. These ancient critics of Christianity still acknowledged that Jesus performed miracles, and that the tomb was found empty.
